In short: HeartWrit keeps everything on your phone. We have no account system, no servers that receive your data, no analytics, and no ads. The Android app has no permission to use the internet.

Who we are

HeartWrit is published by Blake Rice, Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. Questions about privacy: .

What the app stores, and where

To work, the app keeps the following on your phone, in its own private storage:

  • The verses, passages and collections you add, and the Bible translations bundled with the app (KJV, WEB and BSB, all public domain).
  • Your review history: when you reviewed each verse, how, your score, and how it was scheduled.
  • Your gate history: which of your limited apps was paused, when, and how the review went.
  • The apps you chose to limit, your schedule windows, reminders and other settings.
  • An error log, used only to help fix bugs.

None of this is sent to us or anyone else. We cannot see it.

What we collect

Nothing. HeartWrit has no account, analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting service. The Android app does not request internet access, so it cannot send data anywhere.

What you choose to memorize may say something about your faith. That's one more reason it never leaves your phone. If we ever offer a feature that needs to send data, such as progress emails or community totals, it will be off until you turn it on, and this policy will say exactly what it sends.

Permissions, and why the app asks

PermissionWhat it's used for
NotificationsReminders that verses are ready, and the start of a schedule window.
Alarms & remindersDelivering those reminders on time.
Usage accessNoticing when one of the apps you chose to limit opens, so a verse can come first. The app only checks against your list; it doesn't record your other app use.
Display over other appsShowing the verse review over a limited app.
Battery optimization exemptionKeeping the gate working when your phone tries to close background apps.
Run at startupRestarting the gate and your reminders after the phone reboots.
App listShowing your installed apps so you can pick which to limit. Only the apps you pick are saved.

The gate also shows a small ongoing notification ("Guarding your verses") while it runs, as Android requires.

Backups

  • Backup file. In Settings, Your data, you can export everything to a file and save it wherever you choose. That file contains your verses and history, so keep it somewhere you trust. You can restore it on this or another phone.
  • Android device backup. If you use Android's own backup, it may include HeartWrit's data in your Google account backup. That backup is handled by Google under its privacy policy. You can turn it off in your phone's settings.

Subscriptions

If you buy a HeartWrit membership, the payment is handled by Google Play (or Apple on iPhone). We never see your card or payment details.

Children

HeartWrit is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.

Deleting your data

Because your data lives only on your phone, you control it. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android settings, deletes it. Backup files you exported stay where you saved them until you delete them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects your data, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app before the change applies.
